The history of oil and gas in Red River County

A quiet county, honestly described

Red River County has oil and gas listed among its mineral resources and almost nothing written about either. We could pad this page. We would rather tell you what is actually known and what is not.

What the county is

Red River County runs along its namesake river on the Oklahoma line, with Clarksville as the county seat. It is old cotton country, settled early, farmed hard, and steadily depopulated through the twentieth century. Its history is agricultural, and the standard county references treat it that way.

They list oil, gas, clay, industrial sand and chalk among the mineral resources. They provide no discovery date, no field name, no production figures and no operator history. That is not an oversight on our part; it is the state of the record.

What we can tell you

Recent permitting is thin and concentrated in one operator. Machin & Associates, Inc. has held essentially all of it, the Franzina 1, approved April 9, 2026; the Reeder 1 in June 2022; the Lennox 1 in July 2021. Before that, LCT Energy permitted the Underwood 'B' 3 in 2019 and Brooks Petroleum the Rodgers 1 in 2018.

That is roughly one well every year or two, from small operators. It is a real if modest industry.

Why this county is on our map anyway

Red River County is in Railroad Commission District 6. We buy every county in District 6, and we say so on every page of this site, so we are not going to quietly leave out the ones with thin stories.

There is also a practical reason. Counties nobody works are counties nobody mails. If you own minerals in Red River County, the odds are good that no one has ever explained to you what you have, not because it is a secret, but because it has not been worth anyone's time to look it up. It is worth ours, because we are already here.

What to know if you own here

  • Expect a small number, and expect us to be straight about it. If your interest is worth more to you than to us, we will say so and explain why.
  • Non-producing minerals are the norm here. That does not make them worthless, but it does make them speculative, and we will price them as speculation rather than dressing it up.
  • We will still pull your records. Whether or not you sell, you will end up knowing what you own. That part is free.

What we buy in Red River County

Mineral rights, royalty interests, overriding royalty, non-participating royalty, non-operated working interest, and non-producing minerals. There is no size limit in either direction. We buy a single interest in one unit and we buy whole family positions.

If your piece feels too small to bother with, call anyway. Small interests in the same tract usually belong to relatives, and we would rather work with the whole family at once.

How an offer gets made

You call or fill out the form. We pull the county records, the appraisal district roll and the Railroad Commission production history ourselves. Within three business days you get a specific cash number in writing and a plain explanation of how we got there. If we think you should hold, we say that too. We cover title, recording and closing, and you keep every royalty check until the day we close.
